Electronics and Assembly Engineer


Reporting to the Head of Operations, Armstrong Medical, the Electronics and Assembly Engineer will provide expertise in the design, development and manufacture of electronics and software solutions for electrically powered medical devices used for respiratory support – including sourcing and supply chain control and customer technical support.



  • Enable the Company to successfully develop electro-medical devices internally, reducing reliance on external contractors.
  • Achieve efficiency in the assembly and test of electro-medical devices and the servicing and repair of such devices.
  • To ensure Regulatory compliance is achieved and maintained for:
    • ISO13485 design control.
    • 93/42/EEC compliance via Technical File control.
    • ISO60601-1 and ISO80601 – compliance, WEE compliance.
    • Labelling, GS1 and UDI compliance.
  • The control and co-ordination of all medical equipment incoming and outgoing from the Coleraine Plant, including incoming goods testing, overseeing testing of devices at external contractors and troubleshooting/problem solving.
  • Oversee supplier liaison and supply chain control.
  • Carry out internal audits and assist with external audits.
  • Keep technical knowledge up to date.
  • Waste management.
  • Environmental impact assessments.
  • Developing electronics for new and existing devices.
  • Establishing and maintaining Demo and Loan Hire Database and Returns records and their related SOPs.
  • Calibration control of testing equipment.
  • Customer support/field visits/supplier audits/provide technical training to customers.
  • Technical writing (labelling, user and technical manuals, reports).
  • Parts specification control
  • Administrative work (use of Navision)
  • Service records management.
  • Spare parts management and inventory control.
  • Developing Preventative Maintenance Programs and the cost and pricing structure of such programs.
  • Involvement in customer complaint/corrective actions.

  • A degree level qualification in an electronics or mechatronics discipline
  • Previous experience in application of electronics or mechatronics in the workplace
  • Experience of design for compliance with electrical safety standards such as ISO60601-1 or an equivalent standard for consumer electronics
  • Demonstrable skills in electronics and software problem solving
  • High level of technical writing skills
  • Experience of design and calibration control of testing equipment
  • PCBA design, make and test capability


  • 2:1 or higher in a combined electronics and software discipline
  • Experience of designing for ISO13485 compliance or other medical device standards
  • Experience of development of electronics or software for medical devices
